Temperature Change

When you feel the pain of a tension headache start, use a temperature change to help make it subside. Use a warm or cool compress and place it directly to the area where you feel pain. If you are unable to go to a massage parlor, having a partner or friend massage the areas where you feel pain can be beneficial as well.

Aromatherapy

If you are suffering from a tension headache, use the power of scent to help relax it away. Lavender and peppermint are two scents known to help relieve pain from headaches. Place a few drops of lavender or peppermint oil into a pot of boiling water. Place your head over the steam and inhale deeply. Breathe out and repeat several times. You can also try placing a few drops of either of these oils on your pillow so you breathe them in as you rest. You may find your headache is gone when you awaken.
